Official: Manchester City finally complete De Bruyne deal

A transfer that has gone all summer was finally brought to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon when Manchester City announced the signing of Belgium international Kevin de Bruyne from Wolfsburg in a deal worth £55m.

He becomes the second most expensive player in British football history. The Belgium international who was voted Player of the Year for 2014-15 in Germany has signed a six year deal with the table toppers.

The move follows a series of stellar performances which lead to rumours linking him European giants like Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

The Manchester club were made to break their transfer record for the second time this summer as Wolfsburg were reluctant to release their star player.

De Bruyne who is in line to make his debut against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on September 12, spoke of his desire to play at the highest level:

"I want to reach the highest level possible as a player and I think the most important thing is that at the end of the season we can be happy and maybe have some titles,"

"I think this is the most important for the Club, the players and for the fans of course."

Manager Manuel Pellegrini spoke of his delight at landing the Belgian playmaker:

"We are very happy to have added Kevin to our team and I have no doubt that he will be a big success on his return to the Premier League."

"It takes a special footballer to improve our squad and I have no doubt that Kevin is certainly one of those – he has all of the mental, physical, tactical and technical attributes required to fit straight in."

"We like to play attractive, attacking football and bringing in a player like De Bruyne will only aid us as we fight on four fronts."

The move to Manchester City crowns what has been a fantastic 18 months for the 24-year-old. He will be hoping to do better than in his previous spell in England.
