The Arsenal manager, has defended the player who says is statistically Europe's finest.
After emerging towards the end of last year the Frenchman has emerged as a key player for Arsenal.
The player who has appeared in all three of the club's Premier League games so far this season was criticised by Sky pundit Gary Neville in the build-up to Monday's 0-0 draw with Liverpool, and Wenger has defended the player.
According to Wenger when all statistics are factored in, Coquelin is the finest player in his position on the continent.
"Coquelin has the best defensive statistics and numbers in Europe. You watch football like I watch football. I don't know what people see. Defensively, Coquelin is doing a great job," he told reporters.
