In pain Ronaldo will break barren run - Santos

Four games into the season and the Real Madrid forward has yet to find the back of the net.

Another goalless match against Albania extended his goalless streak in 2015-16 to four matches.

His Portugal coach has however moved to calm all parties assuring that it was only a matter of time before his captain starts scoring.

He also revealed the Real Madrid star was in pain before the match but however played through it.

With Ronaldo not currently finding his goal range - he missed a glaring oportunity - it took an injury time goal from Miguel Veloso for Portugal to get the win which ensures they now lead Group I with three points.

Speaking to reporters after the win Santos said:

"He's a player who scores 50 goals a season, so it's not surprising that it causes some anxiety when he goes a few games without a goal," the coach said about Ronaldo's current barren run.

"He showed a fantastic, sacrificial spirit because he was experiencing some pain but gave everything in the game. The goals will come.

"Sometimes anxiety plays its part in stopping goals being scored, but he's just saving himself up for the right time."
