Martino - I expect Messi to break Batistuta's Argentina record

Former Barcelona coach and current Argentina head coach Tata Martino has said he expects Messi to break Gabriel Batistuta's Argentina goal scoring record.

The Barcelona forward scored his 47th and 48th international goals in a cameo against Bolivia which took him to within eight goals of the former Argentina striker who is the country's top scorer with 56 goals.

While speaking to reporters after Argentina's demolition of Boilvua in Texas the Argentina head coach said:

"I am sure Leo will catch Batistuta as the team's leading scorer, he is getting closer,"

Martino also explained his reason for reatricting Messi to a substitute appearance:

"It is logical that the people who pay for tickets and the organisers of the games want to see Messi playing.

"But we had to think carefully about him because he has played a lot of games. Luckily, in a short time, he made it worth the price of admission."
