Real Madrid are still jealous of Barcelona over Neymar - Bartomeu

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has suggested that the tax evasion trial over Neymar's move to Camp Nou is due to Real Madrid feeling bitter over their failure to win the race to sign the Brazil international.

Barcelona beat Real Madrid and the rest of the world in the race to sign the 23-year-old in May 2013 and with the player developing into one of the world's best players at the club.

However the cost of the transfer has led to court cases on Spain and Brazil with the official figure stated by Barcelona being disputed.

With Bartomeu currently awaiting trial over allegations of tax evasion and fraud regarding the Neymar's transfer he has hinted that the charges are being motivated against him by an embittered Madrid.

While speaking to RAC1 the recently elected club president said: "In Madrid they still don't understand Neymar chose Barca and they are trying to create difficulties for the club and for him,"

"Let's see how the trial finishes, but I will never get tired of defending club and player interests."
