Serie A : The Milan Derby – The Big One…or maybe not

Today, Milan coach fields a strong and almost regular starting eleven. In goal, Nelson Dida, a back four with Nesta and Maldini flanked on both sides by Cafu and Jankulovski. In midfield, Gattuso, Pirlo and Seedorf with Kaka in the support role behind the attacking duo of Inzaghi and Shevchenko….*archived commentary fades*
Also, then came and most importantly went the likes of Ronaldinho, Ibrahimovic, Eto'o, Milito, Thiago Silva, Sneijder, Julio Ceaser, Maicon to mention a few for both Milan sides. The Milan derby is getting to be less and less of a spectacle and for good reason as is obvious from both teams provisional matchday squads.
Kick-Off is scheduled for 7:45 WAT
Match Preview
The Milan derby might not come with much hype as it used to but it is sure to bring excitement as rivalry isn't dead. Players of both sides have plenty incentive going into the game as they both hope for a better outing this season and of course the pride that comes with beating your greatest rival. There is also the pre-match bet agreed upon between the two Milan coaches Sinisa Mihajlovic and Roberto Mancini for the derby winner to donate to charity, a cause which is highly commendable.
Inter go into the match on the back of two slim victories against Atalanta and new boys Capri but there are signs they will only get better considering their late business in the transfer market which saw them bring in a host of players who they will hope gel quick enough for a Champions League Spot or hopefully Title push. Jovetic is a man to look out for after scoring all 3 Inter goals in the two opening matches. The new look midfield will also look to dominate which they will most likely achieve due to the obvious superiority over that of AC Milan.
After the first match and the first loss of the season for the Rossoneri away at Fiorentina and a hard fought victory against Empoli on a day which they showed signs of genius and obvious signs of their lapses, Milan will be looking to re-announce themselves as a force to reckon with in Italian football and what better way than by beating their arch rivals Inter Milan.
Currently facing misery in their midfield with team captain Riccardo Montolivo not expected to be fully match fit, Milan is most likely to turn to either of Honda or Bonaventura for creativity and link up play to the already tested attacking duo of Bacca and Luiz Adriano. Lots of options in the center of defense with all centre defenders currently fit and roaring to play but a defensive pairing to include the newly acquired Romagnoli should be expected to deal with the pace and creativity of Inter attackers.
Expect goals in this game as both teams can currently boast of splendid attacking talent in Jovetic, Palacio, Icardi, Carlos Bacca, Luiz Adriano and the newly returned Mario Balotelli and very somewhat weak defenses as compared to what is expected of Italian teams.
Watch Out: Mario Balotelli is quite vested in this match or who else could say he has played for Inter Milan, has played under Mancini at Manchester City where they had a strained relationship, has played for Milan, is back at Milan for what seems the last chance he is going to get to fully prove his potential and of course the person you would expect the most to spark some kind of controversy. Although, Mihajlovic has been reported saying Balotelli isn't 100% match fit, expect him to get a run in at some point in the game. Get a goal Balo! We've missed your celebration…or maybe your not celebrating. Cheers!!!!!!
The writer of this article will predicts a 3 – 1 scoreline to Intermilan, as they seem the likely of both Milan sides to get victory. Milan is also winless in their last three attempts away to InterMilan.
