Wenger defends Arsenal's transfer window: There was nobody worth buying

The Gunners boss has pleaded with Arsenal fans not to let their wish for a new striker could their judgements and instead support the ones currently at the club.

He also stated that the quality of the strikers on the market were not higher than those already at the club, while also backing his strikers to score goals this season.

The Gunners have been criticized in some quarters for their failure to add new players to the club following the signing of Petr Cech.

Arsenal were the only club in the top five leagues who failed to add a single outfield player in the whole of Europe.

However following top transfer target Karim Benzema's decision not to join and his club's refusal to sell Wenger decided against going after other alternatives.

He spoke to reporters about the shortage currently in the transfer market:

"In the end, the solutions were not what we wanted. We looked but you have to find an efficient solution.

"Look at what happened on the transfer market and it tells you there is a shortage out there. The solutions we had were not convincing at all.

"The good news about the window shutting is that we can now focus on the football."

He also rebuffed claims by critics that his striking department were short on quality and stated his belief that they would deliver the needed goals:

"I am confident that we have enough quality and cover."

"We have [Alexis] Sanchez, [Olivier] Giroud and [Theo] Walcott.

"We have quality and can score goals."

He also defended his top striker Oliver Giroud who has been subjected to criticism recently over his lack of form:

"He has my full support. It's difficult for any player after they miss chances," Wenger concluded.
