Raheem Sterling nets first goal since £49m move as Manchester City defeat Watford 2-0

He is the one who is smiling now. On a weekend in which former club Liverpool suffered a 3-0 home loss Raheem Sterling scored his first goal for Manchester City as Manuel Pellegrini's men continued their perfect start to the season.

Despite it still being early in the season you won't find many putting money on anyone else winning the Premier League, the fans chanted 'Raheem Sterling... he's top of the league' after the former Liverpool winger scored his first goal for the club

Those fans will feel confident of being able to carry on singing that song for the next nine months considering the manner with which City have started the season.

They have won all four matches to date, scoring 10 and conceding none. With key players, especially the spine of Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero performing very well and with the expected addition of £54million winger Kevin de Bruyne from Wolfsburg, things have been going to plan.

This win was their club record 10th in a row, including the six at the back end of the last campaign.

In what ultimately became a routine victory, newly-promoted Watford were well-organised and deservedly went into half-time break goalless.

However, a switch in formation at half time from manager Pellegrini saw Raheem move upfront alongside Aguero with Nasri who was a halftime change for Jesus Navas and Silva in the flanks.

The tactical switch made the impact Pellegrini desired with Sterling converting a Bacary Sagna cross for the opener and Fernandinho scoring his second goal of the season.

After all the rancour of his summer move from Liverpool, the young man who has put in excellent performances so far was finally able to get off the mark for his new club.

While speaking at the post match conference the Chilean spoke of his half time tactical switch while also bearing words of caution over his side lead so early in the season:

'I think it was important to make the change at half time,' said Pellegrini.

'We had possession before then but not many chances. So we changed it, we needed someone closer to Kun(Aguero) and we returned to 4-4-2!"

'We have had four different opponents and found the solution against them. But there have only been four games. Last season Chelsea had an eight-point lead and we caught up by the end of the year so it is too early to make predictions."

One this form however it will take City self destructing for any one else to win this season's league title.
