Jose Mourinho: Senior players must improve or I'll bench them for the kids

As he continues struggling to find a solution to his side's problem this season Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has warned his senior players of he would do away with them for the kids if they don't improve on their performances.

The Chelsea manager questioned the 'motivation, desire and commitment' of his Chelsea players ahead of their Champions League fixture at Porto.

The defending English champions have made a poor start to the season winning only two of their first seven Barclays Premier League games in the defence of their title.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the clash he blasted the attitude of some of his players while also questioning their desire to win more and their motivation:

'Clearly it's an attitude perspective of some individuals,' blasted Mourinho.

'And when you have individuals with that unstable attitude in terms of motivation, desire and commitment, you will pay.

'There are two sorts of champions: champions who win something — and there are lots of them — and champions who during their career win one, two, three, four, five, 10 or 20 titles.

'It's difficult to win every season but you can be a serial champion in your approach and attitude. This is the problem we have at this moment. We have champions, but not serial champions.'

He also spoke about the difficulty in winning both the Premier League and Champions League in one season while also stating that he was ready to bench all the senior players and use the kids.

'We are in an open situation. It is difficult to win the Premier League and Champions League, but possible. If the season goes in one direction and becomes closed, and we can't win, I will go just with the kids. I am ruthless.

'I have very good players, players I like as players, and I like their human qualities. It is very good group of guys but 'untouchables' in football? Only consistency can give you that status.'

He added: 'Generally I'm happy and positive. They fight and want to improve, but we have some players who you want more from.

'I cannot say I'm happy with one, two, three, four or five players. I look for consistency.

'When you want to be a big team and you want to win you have to be consistent in your attitude.'
