Mainz 0-3 Bayern Munich: Lewandowski scores his 7th goal of the week

The Poland international made it seven goals in a week with a double on Saturday, with Kingsley Coman getting the other goal as they comfortably defeated Mainz 3-0 at the Coface Arena.

There was also another assist for revelation of the season Douglas Costa but, the day belonged to striker Robert Lewandowski who made it a century of Bundesliga goals for himself.

It has been a big week for the former Dortmund striker who scored five times against last season's runner up Wolfsburg in midweek.

Making his 168th league appearance, the Poland international scored twice to take it to seven goals for the week.

The win helped secure Bayern Munich's best start to a league season.

After the 'Bayern's Messi' Muller missed a penalty in the first half, the German champions took the lead through red hot striker Lewandowski met Kingsley Coman's cross and planted his header perfectly beyond the reach of opposing goalkeeper Karius.

The 51st minute header made him the fastest non-German player to reach 100 league goals.

That wasn't all for Bayern and Lewandowski as he scored his seventh goal of the week and Bayern's second of the night when he rounded off a neat move 12 minutes later after latching on to a through ball from substitute Arturo Vidal before rounding Karius and sliding home.

The third goal of the game came through summer signing Kingsley Coman when he arrived at the far post to steer home Douglas Costa's cross, as Bayern made it seven wins from seven to extend their 100 per cent record at the top of the table.

There was still time for Lewandowski to miss a late chance as he failed to get his hat-trick goal after an error by the Mainz defence.
