Martino expresses Messi dilemma

The Copa America and World Cup runners up have lost the Barcelona star to injury which has ruled the mega star out for up to two months.

It has left concerns over his availability for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with questions  over whether to add another name to his squad.

With the side set to face Brazil and Colombia in November the former Barca coach refused to confirm whether he will name a replacement for Lionel Messi for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.

With the four time Balon d'or winner ruled out for up to two months after due to a knee injury sustained at the weekend, there are significant worries over the selection for their upcoming fixtures.

Speaking to reporters after attending Monday's Primera Division match between Estudiantes and Newell's Old Boys in La Plata Martino said:

"For now I am not going to call up anybody. We picked 27 players precisely for this reason."

"In any case, I will not rule it out either."

The for Old Newell boss also confessed his disappointment about the in availability of the Argentine no 10 in an interview with Ole published on Tuesday:

"If we lose they will say Messi was missed, and if we win his absence will be minimised."

Argentina will kick off their campaign for Russia 2018 at home to Ecuador on October 8, before visiting Asuncion five days later.
