The defender got red carded in the defeat against Iceland on Thursday after lashing out at an opponent.
New Netherlands captain couldn't help himself as he felt the defender let his team down.
'As captain I will always stand by my players, but I can't say anything else than that this is very stupid,' said Robben of the red card.
The incident occurred moments Robben limped off with a groin injury and the Bayern man stated his disappointment at the defender:
'He really let his team-mates down and I think that's a big shame.'
After the first-half red card at the Amsterdam Arena on Thursday night, Iceland would go onbto win the match courtesy of a second-half penalty goal from Swansea's Gylfi Sigurdsson.
