Arsenal 2-0 Stoke City: Walcott & Giroud repay Wenger faith

Both forwards have come in for serious criticism this season over their lack of goal, however they both broke their scoring duck at the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners moved up to second place.

With Chelsea loosing the early fixture, it was an opportunity for Arsenal to move closer to Man City and clear of other title rivals.

They started the match full of fire and determination to get a positive result laying siege to the visitors' goal in the opening exchanges.

After twice hitting the woodwork, they finally took the lead through Walcott on the half-hour mark, with the England man racing onto Mesut Ozil's excellent throughball before placing it under opposing goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Arsenal threatened to run riot and Stoke have Butland to thank as the goalkeeper foiled Arsenal on several occasions.

He could however do nothing to prevent scoring the second after the Frenchman nodded in Santi Cazorla's pin-point cross.

Victory saw Arsenal move up to second place in the Premier League.
