Blanc tips Di Maria to score more goals

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player scored his first Champions League goal for his new club as they defeated Swedish Champions Malmo on Tuesday.

His manager Laurent Blanc has now tipped his new charge to score more goals for the club. The Argentine attacker marked his Champions League debut for his new employers by breaking the deadlock in the fourth minute of the Group A fixture. The second goal of the night was scored by Edinson Cavani in the second half.

Despite it being PSG talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovich's day as he faced his first club, he was however unable to outshine Di Maria, who was the main attraction in the French capital.

Blanc has now tipped the Argentine's performances to improve as he nears his physical peak.

He told reporters:

"Di Maria is rising to the top. He arrived late to the preparation and he was injured too."

"I think we were right to put him to work physically and rest him. He will need it. He needs competition right now."

"He didn't play 90 minutes but you can see his abilities in front of the goal already. This boy can bring us quality and assists but also a certain number of goals."

"I talked to him about that. He told me he did not score a lot, but I think he is capable of that."
