Change of strategy led to Adama Deulofeu Suarez sales - Barca V.P

Barcelona vice president Jordi Mestre has revealed the reason behind the sales of some of its best young players.

The likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Adama Traore and Denis Suarez left the club for Everton, Aston Villa and Villareal respectively in the recently closed transfer window.

While defending what was an unusual way of operation by the club. The sports vice president said the decision was made for better clarity. Rather than send players on loan with no clarity on their futures, the club chose to sell the players while inserting buy back clauses into their contracts.

Speaking to Sport he gave the reason for sale of the likes of Adama:

"Adama, Deulofeu, Denis Suarez sold? We changed our strategy: sale plus buy-back rather than loan."

"When a player is on loan, he doesn't really belong to any of the teams. When sold, things are clearer."

This way the club can buy the player back if the club sees reason to but if that isn't the case the club don't have to experience the situation they had with Bojan several years ago.
