Doomsayer: Martial will be an expensive flop - Ray Parlour

Manchester United £36million signing Anthony Martial has been tipped to flop by old Arsenal man Ray Parlour.

The young Frenchman joined Louis van Gaal's Manchester United from Monaco in a deal that could rise to £58m on transfer deadline day.

Despite his undoubted potential, former Arsenal stalwart Ray Parlour however doesnt see the 19-year-old setting the Premier League alight.

He believes the huge outlay made by United for the Frenchman could turn out to be one they regret.

Speaking to Sky Sports he said:

'Will Martial succeed? I look forward to seeing him play, but I think it's going to be a miss, because the money they've spent is an unbelievable amount.'

'For a 19-year-old kid, he's not proven.'

'If he proves to be like a Thierry Henry, which is what a lot of people are saying, then he could obviously be a great signing, but I think it is a massive gamble to take on a 19-year-old kid.

'With the money they've put out, I could be totally wrong, but I'm going to say miss on that one.'

The young Frenchman will be hoping to prove him wrong as he prepares to make his United debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
