New Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez has stated that he expects the Argentine forward to stay at the club for the rest of his career.
The Barcelona all time top scorer had one of the best seasons of his career as the club won the treble last term.
As he continues to inspire the club to trophies the sporting director said:
"Messi will play for the club for the rest of his life," said Fernandez.
"He has many years of football left in him. Other people think not, but he's so intelligent positionally and knows where to be on the field at the right time.
"As people get older they lose things but he's smart enough to keep producing extraordinary performances. He has that gift."
Barcelona will the counting on Messi as they look to defend the trophies they won last season.
