Roger Federer beat France's Richard Gasquet in Wednesday's US Open quarter finals match. He won 6-3 6-3 6-1 to qualify for the semi-finals setting up a tantalizing duel with countryman Stan Wawrinka.
The evergreen tennis legend has been imperious form throughout the tournament with the Swiss yet to drop a set. With both players employing one-handed backhands, they both had an elegant stroke but that was the end similarities.
Federer, 34, who hardly missed smashed 50 winners while the hapless Gasquet who seemed more like an innocent bystander could only manage a paltry 8.
Federer has looked like a new, improved, revitalized model of himself and he spoke of the changes that has occurred:
'Since a few years now, or many years, I have tried to look at the big picture to hopefully still be playing at a high level at this age,' Federer said.
'I have been able to take the ball earlier, and I think I'm volleying better than I have the last 10 years.'
'Sleeping has become quite important. I make sure I sleep enough, as well,' he said.
'I believe it's really the sleep that gives you energy again down the road. That's why the next two days are very important for me in terms of sleeping.'
'In terms of sleeping? Hopefully nine to 10 (hours),' he said.
Hopefully he would have had enough sleep to re energize for his semi-final match against Stan Wawrinka who easily dispatched Andy Murray's conqueror Kevin Anderson with a 6-4 6-4 6-0 victory.
