Chelsea transfer target Aymen Abdennour on his way to Valencia

After Chelsea switched their focus towards the Monaco defender following Everton's refusal to budge in their move for John Stones, the London club have been dealt another transfer blow.

Any hopes they had of signing Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour has taken a plunge as the French club are unwilling to sell to the English club.

Despite the fact that the Monaco defender has signed papers saying he wants to play for Jose Mourinho it now seems he is on his way to the club who knocked Monaco out of the Champions League.

With Valencia willing to pay more, Chelsea's interest in the defender has gone cold after the price to sign the 26-year-old centre half was increased at the last moment.

They had hoped they would announce his signing this week as they bid to shore up their defence.

However with the price expected to be around £22m, they do not believe the player is worth that price and have as a result pulled out of the deal.

Baring any last minute change he is expected to join the Spanish club in the next 24 hours.
