Buffon is the greatest goalkeeper of all time alongside Zoff - Paolo Rossi

Former Juventus striker Paolo Rossi is of the opinion that the Serie A champions' current No. 1 is on the same level as legendary Italy and Bianconeri goalkeeper Dino Zoff.

He described Gianluigi Buffon as the greatest goalkeeper of all time alongside the legendary Dino Zoff. The World Cup winner with Italy earned widespread plaudits after his match winning performance in Juve's 2-1 Champions League away win at Manchester City.

The 37-year-old pulled off a string of important saves, denying the opposition from netting several times including crucial stops from David Silva and Wilfried Bony.

His performance allowed the Serie A champions to claim all three points at the Etihad Stadium after two goals from Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata turned things around in the final 20 minutes.

They had fallen behind after Giorgio Chiellini's own goal had beaten Buffon to give City the lead. However the Italy goalkeeper pulled off several impressive saves to prevent the English side from scoring another.

His coach Massimo Allegri called Buffon "perhaps the best ever" keeper. The statement has now been backed by Rossi, who was a teammate of the legendary Zoff.

He played alongside Zoff at the 1982 World Cup and was also team-mates with him at Juve.

He told Corriere dello Sport:

"Gigi [Buffon] and Zoff are the greatest ever."[They are] so different in character but similar in personality. Two absolute leaders, men guiding the whole team."
