Barcelona unhappy at Fifa response to Arda registration request

Barcelona are unhappy at the international governing body's inadequate response to their wish to register the former Atletico attacker, following Rafinha's lengthy injury lay-off.

The recent treble winners just finished serving a two window ban for failing to comply with rules on youth team players, however a lenghty lay-off for midfielder Rafinha has prompted the club to request that the Spanish Football association (RFEF) contact Fifa on their behalf, so as to allow them register Arda.

And with the club having served their ban the only thing stopping them from registering new players is that the next opportunity for them to register new players is not until January.

However, a clause exist in RFEF regulations which allows clubs to register a new player for emergency cover should a player become injured for a period of over five months.

With Rafinha set to be out for six months, Barcelona are trying to use this loophole to register Arda. Having sought the RFEF's consent, they were directed to seek FIFA's permission.

However the negative response they recieved from Fifa was deemed unsatisfactory

Below is the statement released on the club's official website:

"FC Barcelona have today [Friday] received communication from Fifa regarding the proposed authorisation request to the RFEF to proceed with the registration of the player Arda Turan."

"The communication sent by Fifa has not answered the petition raised by FC Barcelona, instead it merely expresses that in their opinion the RFEF is unable to register the player mentioned, because the RFEF's rules "could conflict" with FIFA's rules governing these situations."

FC Barcelona are trying to get a definitive answer from football's international body which will allow them to proceed quickly with the next step.

The club needs definitive answer from world football's governing body, so as to determine plan for a possible appeal tothe Court of Arbitration for Sport if the response is negative.

"What FC Barcelona requested was authorisation or, if negative, an appropriate denial," the statement continued.

"The latter would then allow the club to take the case to the CAS because the registration of players ban has already been completed in its entirety by the Club.

"The RFEF's rules suggest, therefore, that a player can be registered.
