Serena Williams survives second-round scare to qualify for second round at US Open

As she aims to complete the calendar year Grand Slam, World No 1 Serena Williams was made to battle hard to qualify for the US Open second round.

She eventually conquered the unfancied Kiki Bertens of Holland, winning 7-6, 6-3.

As the top seeds in her half have gotten eliminated she was fortunate not to have gone to three sets.

She trailed 2-4 in the first set and 0-4 in the tie break before nerves got the better of her unheralded opponent.
This revealed Serena could be defeated by the only person who could possibly defeat her. Her herself.

If she wins her fourth consecutive US Open, she would become the fourth woman to sweep all four grand slam singles title in one season since Maureen Connolly (1953), Margaret Court (1970) and Steffi Graf (1988).

She next faces Bethanie Mattek-Sands. I cant imagine the pressure she is under.
